The Sandman Universe releases its next spin-off comic with
Lucifer #1; written by Dan Watters and illustrated by Max & Sebastian
Fiumara. Lucifer #1 is a must read, not only for Sandman Universe readers, but
comic book readers in general!
Lucifer is trapped somewhere, by somebody, but the where and
the who has escaped his memory. Lucifer, depicted as a down on his luck kind of
likeable guy has no clue as to the why or where he is, the only thing he knows
for sure is he’s trapped, and he must find a way out.
Along with main character Lucifer, Watters introduces us to Detective
John Decker another down on his luck, likeable poor soul. Decker’s wife is
dying and she’s in pain, lots of pain. Not wanting to see his wife’s last days filled
with pain, John kidnaps her from the hospital…. Just for a ride, like they used
to in the early days. He just wants to see a smile on her face, just one last
time before… But it all goes wrong for John, terribly wrong… and it will take
him down a road he should not follow.
The Sandman Universe comics are astounding great reads but,
Lucifer is the real stand-out among the series. Both the writing and the
artwork are mind-blowing! Watters conveys the desperation of each of the main
characters, Lucifer and John Decker with his unique writing skills… readers will
feel empathy and hope for a character that should be despised! And Max &
Sebastian’s artwork is compelling, coercing the reader… giving them a feeling as
if they are there, right there in the story as it takes place!
