Fall is upon on us and Halloween has started making its ascent;
stores shelves are full of scary costumes; haunted houses are popping up
everywhere and Comic Book Publishers are supplying readers with All-New Horror
Comic Books. Zenescope Comics is the first to publish with “Grimm Tales of
Terror, The Bridgewater Triangle.”
Grimm Tales of Terror, The Bridgewater Triangle is written
by Brian Studler, illustrated by Deivis Goetten, colored by Maxflan Araujo and
lettered by Fabio Amelia. The idea behind the comic book is fascinating, a
swamp with paranormal occurrences, giant snakes, UFO sightings, evil vengeful
creatures, and ghostly hauntings. With the promise of authentic lore and
history The Bridgewater Triangle sounds like the kind of place you should avoid
at all cost.
But, as young adults often do not heed warning Danny and his
friends head to Hockomock Swamp located in the Bridgewater Triangle of
Massachusetts, so Danny can do field research in order to receive extra credit
in his Folklore and Mythology class. Danny’s friends on the other hand are only
interested in one thing as the writer reminds us whenever he can… “tent sex.” On
their way to Hockomock Swamp the group stops for lunch at a local diner where
the waitress warns them not to camp in the swamp because its reputation is
well-earned.
But, Danny and his friends push-on. What awaits the group in
the swamp…? I will leave that up to the reader to find out… no spoilers here.
Studler does a good job portraying an interesting story and Deivis
Goetten provides us with a stunning opening page of fantastic artwork that is
continued throughout the comic. The dark tones along with the story make for a
terrifying read. A fun comic book released in time to get fans revved up for
Halloween!
If you are not looking for a serious horror story with lots
of drama… then this comic is perfect. It is a lot of fun to read and I expect,
like in true fashion… the story will become more twisted and sinister as it
continues, only time will tell, but for now… just enjoy a cool new horror comic
book read!
