Review: Over the Ropes #1

“Everywhere I go it’s the same question… ’Wrestling? You know it’s fake, right?’”
That is how the main character of “Over the Ropes”, from Mad Cave Studios, introduces himself.

Jason is an up-and-coming young Wrestler who thinks he is ready and deserves a shot at the Big-Time. He’s tired of living in the shadow of his Mega-Star boss and his obnoxious son, so when an opportunity to make a name for himself arises, he jumps at it…but not in the way he is expected, thanks to some “free advice” from a new friend.

If you are, or have ever been a fan of Professional Wrestling, then “Over the Ropes” is for you. It’s an unblinking look behind the scenes at the lives of the people who portray those Extraordinary Characters who inhabit the Ring, all for our entertainment.

Although the story is set in a fictional world, writer Jay Sandlin makes each character feel like a real living person. The story moves along at a nice pace and there is plenty of action.

Artist Antonello Cosentino breathes life into the characters and settings with his clean lines and realistic perspective and anatomy. His panels are dynamic and move the story along.

The colorist, Francesco Segala, manages to capture just the right mood for each panel, changing his palette as he sees fit throughout the book.

This is an excellent example of what a “First Issue” should accomplish. I definitely recommend “Over the Ropes”
