The Normals from Aftershock Comics... Are not so Normal After All?!

The Normals written by Adam Glass and published by AftershockComics is quite a unique comic. The title states The Normals, but this family is far from Normal!

The Normals are a typical All-American family! They work, have children, go to church and school, shop just like everyone else, right? Not in this comic book! The Normals are Automations (aka robots), but they have no clue! This family of robots believe they are just like everyone else until one fateful day when Jack’s son falls from a treehouse, exposing a strange wire extruding from his ear! This where the story takes off, and the Normals will never be normal again!

Adam Glass does a great job telling the story of an average family, their downfall and their impending rise! The artwork from Dennis Calero gives us a surreal look at life on the run! The expressions on the characters face totally show the emotional turmoil they are going through!

The Normals has a reminiscent feel of the television show The Humanoids and comic book Vision with an unexpected twist! Being a huge fan of Aftershock Comics, I read this knowing I was going to like the comic, but after reading The Normals this book shot up my list of must have comics! I highly suggest checking this one out, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Gravediggers Union from Image Comics and Wes Craig

The Gravediggers Union is a new comic book published by Image Comics and written by Wes Craig. The Gravediggers Union is a crazy, wild world where the supernatural is taking over! The Gravediggers have been fighting zombies that have been popping up out of their graves. At first it was just a zombie or two, but lately there have been armies of zombies rising! What is going on?

Not only are the zombies chomping at the bit, but ghost storms are on the rise too! It’s up to the Gravediggers Union to find out what’s going on, oh and by the way…they’ll need the witches help! Nothing can go wrong? Right?!

Artist Toby Cypress artwork is amazing… kind of a goth like with an eerie, sinister feel that really brings to life The Gravediggers Union!

Did you pick up a copy of "The Beef" # 1

The Beef # 1 from Image Comics hit comic book stores last week. The title was interesting enough, but it was the cover that got my eye, a can of meat (like spam) but with the title of the comic book on it… The Beef. The cover is a little tricky though, on the bottom of The Beef it says, “Tainted Love a Bio-Chemical Romance,” so I assumed the comic was going to be a love story… I was wrong!

The Beef # 1 written by Richard Starkings and Tyler Shainline took me by surprise, this strange and slightly twisted tale is quite good! Chuck Carter, the main character of The Beef has been eating cheeseburgers all his life, and almost always eating several burgers in one sitting! That really can not be healthy with all those steroids, chemicals and God only knows what else added to the cow’s diet, not to mention what they actually add to the beef!

Chuck, who has been visiting the meat factory since childhood, (trying to get a glimpse of his father who is forced to work double and even triple shifts) is all grown up and has taken his fathers place at the meat factory. The owners of the factory are terrible, nasty and no good treating Chuck and other employees terrible!!

Things are about to change though!! The “Beef” will be born! 

This comic book is not for the weak-of-heart! Sometimes the graphics are, well graphic! This five-issue mini-series is sure to be Image Comics next big hit!
